In Pursuit of the Incongruous
I have always been an observer. When I was 5 years old, my grandmother awarded me the nickname “eagle eye” for my keen attention to detail. Today, I continue to prize the uniquely human capacity to observe and compose. I am drawn to make images that interrupt our expectations; pictures that ask us to look at the world in new and unexpected ways. I aspire to do this by focusing on that which may otherwise go unnoticed. I believe as Robert Frank did, that “It is important to see what is invisible to others”.
The images featured here are a selection of medium format photographs from my ongoing project, ‘In Pursuit of the Incongruous’. I have trained myself to ask questions with my camera. This approach has given me poetic license to explore light, texture, shape and composition - free from the constraints of a cogent linear narrative. This playful engagement with form often imbues my images with visual contradictions and non sequiturs that embrace ambiguity.
